Ashland (is) Sewer

I missed getting a picture of the sewer work at the Ashland house yesterday. I stopped by in the early afternoon and there was a 3 foot wide, 6 foot deep trench running the length of the driveway and into the back yard. They had already connected the pipe to the street and run it to the back of the house.

In the afternoon they broke up the old septic holding tank and gate box, swung the new pipe around the corner of the house, and connected to the house waste drain pipe.

The only significant problem is the existing connection for the washing machine in the basement. The outflow currently goes through a pipe in the basement window and down into a dry well. Code requires that the outflow now go to the sewer connection. It also requires that the outflow pipe cannot be above grade.

The excavation contractor called in a plumber who will be connecting into the waste pipe from the inside of the house today.

When I stopped by this morning, the trench was filled, old septic tank had been filled, and the clean-outs had been set into the ground. He was adding the last of the clean fill in preparation for the paving company to come today to seal the trench. He will also put down some loam and seed the back yard where the tank was - now that is great service!

Notice in the top picture that they were careful to save the Haverhill Hostas.
